MANOA (KHNL) - It's a problem we have all probably been exposed to one time or another here in the islands... mosquitoes!

So we puts a product to the test, in this Does It Work segment, that seems to be a real hit...with the pests!

Hawaii has some of the most beautiful scenic hikes around. But along with the lush greenery, the islands also are known for something not so nice that can really take a bite out of your outdoor fun.

"We have big mosquito, big bug problem in Hawaii," said one hiker.

We went to Manoa Falls, where standing water and plentiful plants are the perfect combination for mosquitoes to breed. And also the perfect place to try Bug B Gone.

An all natural product made here in Hawaii that uses essential oils to produce a pleasant smell for humans, but one that claims to really bug the the bugs.

"The essential oils , repel just like burning a citronella candle when your sitting down to dinner. You can't carry a candle with you - instead this is something good that you can continually spray on. And not worry if someone gets into it," said Jenna Rae, with the North Shore Soap Factory.

First we shake up the Bug B Gone to mix the oils, then spritz on a few sprays on the ankles and wrists.

And its off into the woods.

A stop here at a puddle of water and you can see the mosquitoes in the air, but not on us.

It made our half hour hike bite free, so we could enjoy the scenery without having to do all that swatting.

Bug B Gone, is made in Waialua at the North Shore Soap Factory and a two and a half ounce spray bottle costs eight dollars

Because it is a natural product it does wear off. So if you are headed on a long hike or are outdoors for a while, you may have to reapply it periodically.
