U.H. Men's Volleyball Head Coach Charlie WadeHONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – So much for a slump. The Warrior Volleyball team silenced their critics with a dominating sweep against No. 2 Stanford, sweeping the defending national champs, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 Friday night. The win also started the MPSF season for UH on the right foot.
The Warriors (1-3, 1-0 MPSF) were led by All-American Jonas Umaluft who had a match high 22 kills and hit .500. Steven Hunt had 6 kills and 3 of Hawaii's 8.5 blocks, his final one came in the third set and gave UH "aloha ball" at 24-16. Moments later the senior ended things with a kill that propelled UH past the very Cardinal who ended their season last year.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
