LONG BEACH, Calif.(HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team defeated No. 5 Long Beach State, Friday, in the first of two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches at Walter Pyramid. ( 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23.)
The victory was UH's fifth straight, its longest win streak since 2007, and coupled with Brigham Young's loss to Cal State Northridge, moved Hawai'i ahead of Long Beach State for a tie with BYU for third place in the MPSF standings.
The Warriors (11-9, 9-6 MPSF) were led by All-American opposite Jonas Umlauft, who had a match-high 22 kills.
The teams play again Saturday at 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT) at the Walter Pyramid. The match can be heard live on ESPN 1420AM with Blaine Kauwe calling the action.
