President Obama announced during an interview Wednesday that he supports same-sex marriage.
The President of the United States also tweeted on his Twitter profile @BarackObama "Same-sex couples should be able to get married."
During a special network interview Wednesday, President Obama said "I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I've just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married."
"I think it's a great step forward," said Michelle Gallagher.
Michelle Gallagher, who is in a 13-year relationship, shares a home with her partner.
But President Obama's announcement is not earning him votes with all gay Clevelanders. The owner of Twist Nightclub says it's just political spin.
"Had he made this announcement in the middle of his term -- Only now I believe it's for political reasons," said John Katsaros.
In Westlake at the Church On The Rise, Obama's stand may be enough to warrant his fall from grace and the nation's highest office.
"I think if we're going to have a strong nation we need to have strong families and God entitled it one man and one woman," said Pastor Joran Endrei.
Meantime Wednesday, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney reiterated his opposition to same-sex marriage.
