HAWAII ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island.
Forecasters say radar showed areas of moderate to heavy rain moving over the windward side of the Big Island with stream gages indicating significant rises in water level. Addition showers are moving toward the island from the east.
The advisory includes the north Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo and Puna districts.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
If heavy rain persists, the advisory may be extended beyond 9:15 a.m.
